An Open Letter to the People of Camden

We’re honored to be part of the amazing Camden community for over thirty years, but the difference we make for the community may not be so easy to understand.

What we do might sound pretty simple – turning trash into energy – but our commitment to the places where we operate goes way beyond that.

Across the nation, Covanta is on a mission to eliminate the waste sent to landfills – lowering CO2 emissions, reducing the harmful impact of methane gases, and slowing down climate change.

But it’s our people in communities like Camden that make the real difference. We have more than 50 people that come to work every day in our facility here, and we’re working hard to create opportunities for local talent, too. In fact, 60% of our new hires last year were from Camden.

Beyond that, we’re pitching in over $2.4 million in property and impact fees each year. These funds help hire teachers, cops, and firefighters, and make life easier for homeowners and renters by lightening their tax load.

But that’s just the business side. Covanta believes in giving back. In the last year we partnered with nearly 50 local non-profits, donating supplies, money, and our time. Our team members put in over 450 hours of volunteering last year alone!
