Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker has added five members to her administration’s leadership team. These individuals will manage education policy, special events, and the city’s streets and sanitation departments. This is part of Mayor Parker’s ongoing personnel appointments.
Dr. Debora Carrera is the new Chief Education Officer. With over 27 years of experience in the School District of Philadelphia, Dr. Carrera will implement Mayor Parker’s education plan. Her responsibilities include developing year-round education programs, out-of-school activities, a strategy for school building upgrades, and assisting in School Board recruitment.
Sharon C. Ward is the Deputy Chief Education Officer. Ward, a former Senior Policy Advisor for the Education Law Center, will work with the ELC’s legal team to implement the court’s decision on school funding. She will also aim to bring Pennsylvania’s school funding system into compliance with the constitution. Ward has previously worked as Director of the Budget Office under Governor Wolf.
