More than $1 million found missing from ATMs – police were left stunned when they looked inside an employee’s car

A MAN has pleaded guilty to felony theft after being caught for stealing money more than $1.1 million from the ATMs he worked on.

The investigation began in August 2022 when police were called after the company’s fraud department flagged significant cash loss.

An employee at Diebold Nixdorf, a global financial technology company, told police that they had found shortages in 47 ATMs, according to the police criminal complaint filed in January 2023, reported The Philadelphia Inquirer.

ATMs in Philadelphia as well as Montgomery and Delaware Counties were all missing money.

Nicholas J. Anderson was identified as the employee who served the ATMs in those areas and his company vehicle was taken from him, the unidentified employee told police.

The employee said he looked inside the car and found $12,050 in cash, a Glock 23 handgun, and a prescription medication bottle belonging to Anderson.

The handgun had a 30-round magazine and had been reported stolen out of Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania — 19 miles northeast of Philadelphia — in 2020.
