This recognition highlights the unique charm and quality of this small but exceptional establishment located in the Fishtown neighborhood.
Owner Joe Beddia, often referred to as “The Jiro of Pizza,” operates this nondescript 300-square-foot brick storefront on the corner of East Girard Avenue and Shackamaxon Street. Pizzeria Beddia is known for its minimalist approach, with no phone and no seats, relying solely on the exceptional quality of its pizza to attract customers. With just two employees, Beddia makes only 40 pies a day, ensuring each one meets his high standards.
The announcement of Pizzeria Beddia’s ranking was made this week, reflecting the broader trend of American pizza artisans increasingly focusing on product quality and ingredients. The 50 Top Pizza guide, curated by Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, has expanded its rankings to include 100 pizzerias, with the top 50 ranked and an additional 40 recognized for their excellent pizza.
