Jeep drives into Schuylkill River; third car in less than a month

Philadelphia authorities recovered a Jeep that drove into the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park.

Police say they responded to a report of “a person in the river ” near Kelly Drive and Brewery Hill Drive at 2:40 a.m.

When police arrived they were notified that a white Jeep went into the Schuylkill River, but it is unclear if the car was occupied or not.

At this time the Philadelphia Marine Unit and Central Detectives Division are working to recover the vehicle as well as figure out how the car ended up in the river.

In less than a month, this car marks the third vehicle that has driven into and been recovered from the river.

When asked about the pattern of cars going into the river in recent days, Lieutenant Andrew Napoli from the Philadelphia Marine Unit said, ” At this point, we don’t believe it’s suspicious. There was a report that the vehicle may have been stolen this morning… but it is the third vehicle, and all three incidents were different in nature. So there’s not, any one MO so it’s just just different occurrences.”
