Philly Customs and Border Protection seize 3 parcels of xylazine

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Philadelphia seized three parcels of xylazine in September.

The most recent, they say, was on Thursday when a parcel labeled as “mica powder for makeup” arrived in express air delivery from Spain.

Addressed to an address in Philly, officials say the nearly two-pound parcel contained a “white, powdery substance” that tested positive for xylazine, an animal tranquilizer.

Nicknamed “tranq,” the substance is sometimes cut into other drugs like fentanyl and heroin and does not respond to Narcan.

Officers say they also seized parcels going from Spain to Philly on Sept. 16 and 5.
