Man convicted in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend to spend decades in prison

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man convicted for his role in the shooting death of 39-year-old Ishan Charmidah Rahman , a pregnant Philadelphia mother, during a drug deal gone bad will spend decades behind bars after an emotional sentencing hearing Tuesday morning.

After Judge Charles Ehrlich handed down the sentence of 26 to 72 years in prison, Razique Bumpas slumped his head and said, “But this was never meant to happen” — to which the judge responded, “You were part of a shootout” and now a pregnant woman and her baby are dead.

Prosecutors say in February of 2020, Bumpas and another man who has not been identified met up near 9th and York streets in North Philadelphia with Rahman’s boyfriend for a drug deal. Bumpas and the man attempted to rob Rahman’s boyfriend. Rahman was shot, and her boyfriend was shot in the chest. Only he survived.

Bumpas was charged with murder, but the jury convicted him of only a few charges, including two counts of conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree, aggravated assault and robbery.
