Man fatally shot by Haddon Township officer was a Pennsauken resident

HADDON TWP. — A man fatally shot by a police officer in Haddon Township has been identified as a Pennsauken resident.

Keith Edelin, 46, was shot by Haddon Township Officer Luke Falkenberg during a confrontation in an apartment building stairwell early on Nov. 3, according to the state attorney general’s Office. Edelin allegedly was armed with a knife when Falkenberg and a partner encountered him shortly after 1 a.m.

The officers were responding to a 911 call that reported a burglary in process at a building on the 300 block of Crystal Lake Avenue, the attorney general’s statement said.

“During an interaction in the stairwell, Officer Falkenberg fired his service weapon, striking Mr. Edelin,” it said.

Officers gave medical aid until Edelin was taken to an area hospital, where he died about an hour later, the statement said.

A knife was recovered at the scene. Falkenberg and his partner were not injured.
