When ICE abruptly detained the immigrant owners of a restaurant in her Haddon Township neighborhood, Isis Williams quickly stepped up, organizing and hosting a community event to help them.
For those who know her, it’s not surprising. She’s simply not the type of person to sit idly on the sidelines while people around her suffer injustices or are wronged in any way. In the wake of George Floyd’s horrific murder in 2020, Isis, a 46-year-old mother of one who’s lived in Haddon Township for 13 years, co-founded nonprofit The Haddon Township Equity Initiative.
At that time, she says, “the world was pretty much a dumpster fire,” and the goal of the group, which was formed by Isis and eight other women — all of them moms — was to join forces to make their mostly white community “a more equitable and inclusive place to live.”…
