On Monday, July 7, 2025, at approximately 12:57 a.m., officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 17th District responded to a call for a person with a gun on the 1500 block of South Etting Street in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia. When officers arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Three people were pronounced dead shortly after the incident. Zahir Wylie, 23, of the 1100 block of Marilyn Road, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Jason Reese, 19, of the 5400 block of Media Street, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. Azir Harris, 24, of the 2400 block of College Avenue, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m.
Nine other individuals sustained gunshot wounds, ranging in age from 15 to 24. The victims include:
- A 21-year-old male shot in the buttocks and ankle.
- A 17-year-old male shot in the left arm.
- A 24-year-old male shot in the left arm.
- A 19-year-old male shot in the left arm.
- A 23-year-old female shot in the left elbow, left thigh, and right calf.
- A 15-year-old female whose injuries were not immediately specified.
- A second 17-year-old male shot in the left arm.
- An 18-year-old male, with details of injuries yet to be confirmed.
- A 19-year-old male who sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. He was initially taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and later transferred to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he remains in critical condition.
Another person was also injured while fleeing the scene, though police clarified that this individual was not shot but fell during the chaos. That person was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well…
