Midnight Ambush at North Philly Church: Woman Fatally Shot Outside Sanctuary

An investigation is underway into a targeted killing that left a 29-year-old woman dead outside the Deliverance Evangelistic Church in North Philadelphia early Friday morning. Neighbors say the blast of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn stillness just before 1 a.m. on July 17, 2025. When officers arrived, they found the woman slumped against the metal fence in front of the church, fatally struck by multiple rounds to the head, face and chest.

According to Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore, responding officers recovered eight spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon, all fired at point-blank range. “Some were just inches away from where she was lying and the others are just a few feet away,” Vanore told The Philadelphia Inquirer, underlining the deliberate nature of the attack. Police have no description of the suspect or suspects, and no motive has yet been established.
