A South Philadelphia cold case dating back more than two decades has resulted in an arrest. Authorities announced that Richard Leidy, 60, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and related crimes for the April 10, 1999, killing of Guerino “Gino” Marconi.
Police said Marconi, 42, was gunned down outside his home on the 2400 block of South 20th Street. His girlfriend, 31-year-old Patricia Miley, was also shot and critically wounded. Marconi died one day later from his injuries, while Miley survived despite being struck three times. At the time of his death, investigators described Marconi as an associate of reputed mob boss Joseph “Skinny Joey” Merlino.
Leidy was arrested on Monday, August 25, 2025, at his home on the 2500 block of South 19th Street in the Girard Estates section of South Philadelphia. His residence was located just a block from the scene of the shooting. Authorities allege that on the night of the ambush, Marconi and Miley were leaving their house to go out for a late dinner when they were attacked. Police reports from 1999 stated that the shooter had been waiting in a van parked across the street. After firing multiple times with a .22-caliber rifle, the gunman placed the weapon in the back seat of the van and set the vehicle on fire to conceal evidence…
