Philadelphia, PA – Severe storms have caused widespread power outages and damage across the Philadelphia region and surrounding suburbs on Thursday, with tornado warnings in effect in several areas.
Power Restored at Jefferson Abington Hospital
After experiencing a partial outage earlier in the day, power has been fully restored at Jefferson Abington Hospital, a spokesperson confirmed. Despite the disruptions, the hospital remains open and continues to operate normally.
Widespread Outages Across the Region
The storms also led to significant power outages in multiple neighborhoods across the region, with Chester County hit particularly hard. Residents in the area are dealing with the aftermath of fallen trees and other storm damage.
Westtown Township Cleanup Efforts
In Westtown Township, Chester County, residents along Talleyrand Road are cleaning up fallen trees that were knocked down by the powerful storms. Joseph Stiroga, a long-time resident of the neighborhood, shared his experience as the storm approached.
“We got the warning on our phones there was a tornado warning, so we were packing up,” Stiroga said. “Then the wind just came through. The tops of the trees, we saw them start to twist and fall to the ground, so we all headed inside.”
Thankfully, Stiroga’s family remained safe, and no damage was reported to their home or cars.
