Flourtown man sentenced for $3.8 million theft from Lower Moreland woman and Lafayette Hill widow, both in their 90s

James Batt, 66, of the unit block of Grove Avenue in the Flourtown section of Springfield Township, was sentenced to 2 to 8 years in prison for stealing $3.7 million from the estate of a 92-year-old Lower Moreland woman while he was the executor of her will, and another $75,000 from a second woman in her 90s who he befriended at church, The Reporter said.

The incidents took place between September 2019 and October 2023. Batt pleaded guilty to charges of theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. He was ordered to pay $3,715,381 in restitution to the estate of Alice Lineman and another $75,427 to a Lafayette Hill widow.

According to investigators, Batt used the money for “extravagant travel, hotels, gourmet restaurants, theater tickets, wine and spirits, shopping at high-end stores, plastic surgery and even male jockstraps,” The Reporter said…
