South Philly Shooting and Rhawnhurst Attack Leave Two Dead, Two Injured

Two separate double shootings in Philadelphia have left two people dead and others injured, prompting an active investigation by city police. The incidents occurred days apart in different neighborhoods: one in South Philadelphia and another in Rhawnhurst and together reveal another violent weekend in the city.

The first shooting happened October 9, Thursday evening at the intersection of Broad Street and Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia. Police said that at approximately 6:12 p.m., officers responded to reports of a person with a gun. When they arrived, they found two men who had been shot and a vehicle at the scene that had been struck by gunfire at least fifteen times.

According to investigators, a 22-year-old man had been shot in the chest. He was transported by the Philadelphia Fire Department Medic Unit to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. A second victim, a 23-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
