Philadelphia police have arrested 22-year-old Abou Keita in connection with the deadly double shooting that took place on October 9 near Broad Street and Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia, close to the sports complex. Officials said Keita was taken into custody on Monday, November 17, 2025, on the 2200 block of South Felton Street in Southwest Philadelphia, where investigators located him inside a parked vehicle. Police stated he was arrested without incident and has been charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other related offenses.
The charges stem from a shooting that police reported began just after 6 p.m. on October 9, when officers responded to reports of gunfire at Broad Street and Packer Avenue. As soon as the police arrived, they found an Audi sedan on Broad Street just south of Packer with more than 15 bullet holes. Chief Inspector Scott Small said the vehicle was a “four-door sedan” that had been struck “at least 15 times by gunfire – mainly on the driver’s side and in the rear windshield.” According to officials, the car was still running and unattended at the time officers found it. Surveillance cameras later showed the vehicle driving about half a block before turning onto Broad Street and crashing into another car. According to police, the driver of the second vehicle, a woman, was not injured.
Just north of the intersection on Broad Street, police found 23-year-old Hasson Mason lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and body. Officers immediately began emergency efforts while medics were called to the scene. Mason was then transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where officials said he was pronounced dead a short time later…
