NORRISTOWN — The holidays were on full display along a stretch of Airy Street in Norristown as flatbed tractor trailers carrying food and toys set off for the Salvation Army Norristown Corps.
The cargo received a full scale escort as motorcycles, police cruisers, fire trucks, passenger vehicles, and a school bus accompanied the trucks in a parade style fashion from Municipal Hall – all to ensure the donations collected through the Lt. Patty Simons Law Enforcement Food Drive made it to their final destination.
Co-chairs Carol Capizzi-Velez and Brett Wells estimated that between eight and 10 tons of food were distributed to participating food pantries that serve around 1,500 families…
