Mikie Sherrill Declares Electricity Emergency, Moves to Pause Rate Hikes

Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed two executive orders last Tuesday aimed at addressing rising electricity prices in New Jersey, directing state regulators to consider pausing or modifying pending rate increase proceedings.

The declarations come as New Jersey residents have seen average residential electricity prices rise by more than 33% between June 2023 and June 2025, the largest increase among states served by the PJM regional power grid.
