HARRISBURG, PA, February 11, 2026 – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) proudly announces a significant commitment of $13 million through the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program to enhance traffic safety with six impactful projects across the City of Philadelphia. This initiative underscores the Shapiro Administration’s unwavering dedication to making travel safer for all Pennsylvanians, regardless of how they choose to get around. Since taking office, the Shapiro Administration has allocated $49.7 million toward traffic safety through the ASE program.
“Dangerous driving behaviors, like speeding, jeopardize the safety of everyone on the road,” stated PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “This program is designed to discourage speeding, transform driver behavior, and reinvest those funds into community projects aimed at ensuring the safety of all.”
Act 86 of 2018 set the foundation for Pennsylvania’s ASE pilot program on Roosevelt Blvd. (U.S. Route 1) in Philadelphia, extending between Ninth Street and the Bucks County line. With the passage of Act 38 of 2023, this pilot program has been made permanent and expanded to include up to five additional corridors throughout Philadelphia.
