Mercer County farmers market manager under fire for Black History Month comment

The manager of the Trenton Farmers Market, a Mercer County institution for the better part of a century, is facing criticism for a racially insensitive comment on a Facebook post about the arrest of three African American men during Black History Month.

Bill Kearney, who’s managed the market in what is actually Lawrence Township since 2023, made the comment on a FB post by New Jersey 101.5 on Thursday, which reported that the men had been charged with burglary and included mug shots of each of them.

“Happy BH month,” Kearney commented below the post, which involved a Dec. 16 home burglary in Montgomery Township in Somerset County, along Mercer’s northern border…
