Philadelphia Police Find 9 ATM Cash-Trap Devices

Philadelphia police officials are warning residents to scrutinize their bank statements after ATM cash-trap skimming devices were found at nine locations citywide since mid-March.

The devices have been reported at five bank branches, a variety of stores, Dollar General and Dollar Tree locations, and corner mom-and-pop stores, said Capt. Robert McKeever, in a statement shared with CBS Philadelphia.

According to McKeever, the cash-trap devices block cash from dispensing, leading customers to believe the ATM is malfunctioning or out of cash. The mechanism also prevents the ATM door from opening. The cash is then funneled into a trap-door device that scammers retrieve later…
