Expert in motorcycle gangs can testify at trial of 6 Pagans, judge rules

NORRISTOWN — A judge ruled that prosecutors, with some limitations, can rely on an expert in the world of outlaw motorcycle gangs to educate jurors about such clubs when six members of the Pagans Outlaw Motorcycle Gang stand trial in May on charges they conspired during a confrontation and shooting with members of a rival biker gang outside a Wawa in West Norriton.

Montgomery County Judge Risa Vetri Ferman, in an order dated April 15, said the expert can provide information to the jury regarding “the structure, organization and hierarchy” and the “dynamics, ethos and relationships” of outlaw motorcycle gangs and other so-called “1% or 1 percenter” groups.

The “1 percenter” designation refers to the one-percent of motorcyclists who are not law abiding and are members of outlaw clubs. Pagans are often identified by a 1% diamond patch that they wear on their vests “to display to the world they are a part of the outlaw one percent of motorcyclists,” prosecutors wrote in court documents…
