‘Our home is supposed to be our sanctuary’: Valley woman sues Avondale Police, alleging warrantless home entry and gunpoint detention

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A Valley woman is suing Avondale police in federal court, claiming officers entered her home without a warrant, pointed guns at her while she was half-asleep, and handcuffed her during a late-night confrontation that she says violated her civil rights.

The lawsuit, filed by Ashley Bradley, centers on an incident that occurred last October and is now the subject of a federal civil rights complaint. Bradley claims she was asleep inside her home when three Avondale police officers entered her residence without a warrant after responding to a call about a possible burglary.

According to court filings and body camera footage described in the complaint, officers were responding to a neighbor’s report of an open garage door and suspected activity inside the home.
