After more than three decades serving the East Valley, a longtime Arizona Mexican restaurant has closed one of its locations, marking the end of an era for many loyal customers.
Serrano’s Mexican Restaurants has permanently closed its McKellips Road restaurant in Mesa after 34 years in business. The family-owned chain announced the decision in a statement, citing a combination of rising operating costs and declining customer traffic that made it increasingly difficult to keep the location open.
A difficult business decision
Owners said the closure was not made lightly. In a message shared with customers, they thanked the community for decades of support and reflected on the memories created at the restaurant over the years.
The McKellips location had become a neighborhood staple since opening in the early 1990s, serving generations of families with traditional Sonoran-style Mexican dishes.
