Omega block resurgence: Arizona prepares for warmer, drier conditions before the return of storms

According to the Arizona Weatherman, the Omega Block pattern is set to return over the Pacific Ocean. This pattern will usher in warmer, drier conditions for Arizona this week before more weather systems move through the state. It will cause a rise in temperatures, particularly in Southern Arizona, and halt the weather systems moving through the state. However, more weather systems are expected to move into the state by the end of the week and into the next.

Residents of Phoenix and Tucson can expect high temperatures in the 60s throughout the week, while those in Yuma and other areas in Southwestern Arizona will experience low 70s. This warming, dry trend is associated with the blocking pattern set up over the Pacific and Western coast of the U.S. And will continue until Saturday, 17 Feb 2024. The next round of storms is expected to start impacting Arizona from Sunday into Monday, with this pattern continuing through Friday, 23 Feb 2024.

After the Omega Block upper-level pattern breaks down and the longwave ridging moves to the east of Arizona, this will open the opportunity for several rounds of weather systems to stream through the state once again. This could set up the next atmospheric river event for the state. The forecast precipitation amounts are too far out to predict accurately, but it is possible for heavy snow on the Mogollon Rim and higher rain amounts for Southern Arizona next week. The Arizona Weatherman will track this upcoming round of weather systems, and more detailed updated forecasts will be developed for Arizona. Stay tuned and enjoy the warm-up before the wet weather changes for the state.
