The Phoenix man accused of fatally shooting his mother and father on Monday was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the killing, court documents revealed.
Jim Miller was arrested and charged with the murder of his parents , 73-year-old Sam Miller and 72-year-old Marjorie Valentine, at their residence near 35th Street and Camp Bello Drive in north Phoenix.
At about 5 a.m. on Monday, 38-year-old Miller initially called 911 and said his father shot his mother and then himself, the documents state.
Miller later told officers that he did not know what happened before he ultimately confessed to the shooting while in police custody, according to court documents.
Miller had lived with his parents for the past two years and told police he used his father’s shotgun to shoot his parents after revelations of child abuse toward him and his sibling by his parents.
Miller told police he had been diagnosed with bipolar, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety, according to the court documents.
