Exclusive: 2 lawsuits say the state should be held accountable for sober living home scandal

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – By state leaders’ own accounts, the Medicaid fraud scandal involving sober living homes cost taxpayers $2 billion. Arizona’s Family Investigates has learned it’s the subject of two separate lawsuits, both alleging the state, the Department of Health Services and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System should be held responsible for failing two families. The money was supposed to be used to help people get sober, but that didn’t happen in many cases. Advocates said in some cases, it even led to patients dying.
