Man dead after shooting in west Phoenix

Police reported that a man was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in west Phoenix.

About 4:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in a neighborhood near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road, according to Sgt. Brian Bower of the Phoenix Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found a man lying outside a residence with a gunshot wound. They immediately moved him away from the house and administered lifesaving measures, Bower said.

Phoenix firefighters arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. Bower said officers cleared the house of any potential suspects or other victims, but none was located.

Phoenix police temporarily closed the area while detectives continued an investigation, according to Bower.

By Saturday afternoon, the area had reopened and the search for a suspect continued, according to Bower.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
