Search resumes for missing person following man’s drowning on Salt River

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies continued their search on Thursday morning for a missing person at the Sheep’s Crossing Recreation Site in Tonto National Forest following a drowning the evening before.The search began around 5:37 p.m. Wednesday when sheriff’s patrol deputies responded to a drowning in the area and were informed on their way to the site about at least two people going underwater and not resurfacing, according to the agency. Deputies located two good Samaritans performing chest compression on a man along the shoreline approximately 300 yards upstream of Blue Rock Beach in the thick brush shoreline on the Salt River’s south side, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was pronounced dead despite deputies taking over and sheriff’s lake patrol paramedics providing care, according to the agency. The man’s identity was not disclosed.

The sheriff’s office said deputies resumed the search for a second person at daylight on Thursday after coming short Wednesday while searching on foot, through drone and via helicopter.
