Texas QB Quinn Ewers Redeems Himself, Delivers Historic Clutch Finish in Peach Bowl

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils in double overtime on Wednesday, 39-31. The game was as close as, maybe closer than the score indicates.

Texas survived disaster. After building a 24-8 lead, the Longhorns allowed 16 unanswered points. After the Texas defense allowed a touchdown and two-point conversion, starting quarterback Quinn Ewers hurled a post route into double coverage. Arizona State intercepted the pass and drove downfield to tie the game.

The Sun Devils’ momentum continued in the first overtime period. After Texas kicker Burt Auburn’s missed field goal sent the game to overtime, Arizona State promptly scored seven more point with ease.

Down 31-24, Texas lost three yards in three plays to set up 4th-and-13 at the 28. The Longhorns were done. And then they weren’t.

Quinn Ewers, whose interception put the game in jeopardy, redeemed himself with a play that will live in Longhorns lore for a long time. Ewers launched a bomb to star receiver Matthew Golden on a post route past the Arizona State defense. Golden hauled in the pass to send the game to the next overtime.
