Volunteers find large amount of trash alongside Loop 202 for Earth Day

PHOENIX — Volunteers spent early Tuesday morning scouring the area near Tempe Marketplace and Loop 202, gathering an unexpected haul of trash as part of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Adopt a Highway Earth Day cleanup effort.

Among the items found: shopping carts, socks, shoes, Byrd scooters, tiles, fast food wrappers and even discarded pipes.

“We’ve got some pipes, we’ve got some socks, McDonald’s wrappers, lots of garbage,” one volunteer said…
