2 men sentenced to prison for deadly 2021 street racing crash in Avondale

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two men will spend years behind bars for their involvement in a street racing crash that resulted in a man’s death in Avondale over four years ago.

On Monday, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that Jakari Barksdale and Emanual Cervantez, both 21, were each sentenced to seven years in prison for the crash after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges.

The crash happened in May 2021. The Maricopa County Attorney’s office says Barksdale and Cervantez, who were 17 at the time, were going over 100 miles per hour on South Avondale Boulevard near West Broadway Road when Barksdale’s BMW hit a Ford F-150 that was turning through the intersection. The impact split the truck in half, and the 33-year-old man who was driving was killed instantly…
