A tragic incident unfolded at Desert Ridge Marketplace in north Phoenix, where 39-year-old Jessica Shukers was fatally shot by her ex-husband. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Phoenix Police responded to reports of a shooting near the AMC movie theater at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday.
“When officers arrived, they located an adult woman, identified as 39-year-old Jessica Shukers suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Shukers did not survive her injuries and died on scene,” Phoenix Police revealed in a statement. The suspect, 38-year-old Justin Alan Creed, was on the scene when officers arrived and was subsequently detained. The altercation took place in the Desert Ridge parking lot. Creed has since been charged with murder, and police note, this homicide is considered to be domestic violence as the victim and suspect were previously married and are now divorced.
As the investigation into this deadly event continues, ABC15 reports that the shooting is being treated as an act of domestic violence, given the history between Shuker and Creed.
