Veteran law enforcement official named Phoenix Police chief

After a lengthy search that produced two sets of finalists, Phoenix finally has a permanent police chief for the first time in three years.

City Manager Jeffrey Barton last week announced that Matt Giordano will take the helm at the department, which had been led by Interim Chief Michael Sullivan since former Chief Jeri Williams left in 2022. His salary and start time were not disclosed.

Sullivan was in the first round of three finalists but abruptly took himself out of the running for Phoenix’s top cop. He has since been named chief of the Capitol Police in Washington, D.C…
