No violent charges for man involved in deadly Tempe road rage shooting

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Prosecutors won’t be moving forward with a criminal case regarding violent crimes against a man who shot and killed another driver during a road rage incident in Tempe earlier this month.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said on Monday the grand jury declined to indict 46-year-old Dustin Jackson on homicide and weapons-related charges. He was indicted on drug charges. Jackson had claimed self-defense for the incident.

According to court documents, Jackson was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck with his 6-year-old daughter when he got upset at 29-year-old Steven Bevan, driving a Dodge Challenger with his 9-year-old and 8-year-old sons, for not going on a green left arrow at Warner Road, waiting to go north on Priest Road on July 1, around noon.

After turning on the next green light, Bevan swerved into his lane, brake-checked him, and stopped in front of him, about 400 feet from the Warner Road intersection…
