RIO VERDE FOOTHILLS, AZ (AZFamily) — Over 50 animals have been rescued from deplorable conditions thanks to the help of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Crimes unit and Animal Safe Haven (MASH) crew.
On Saturday, authorities seized over 50 animals, including horses, camels, peacocks, rams, goats, sheep, tortoises, a cockatoo, a bull, and even a zebra, from heartbreaking conditions in the Rio Verde Foothills, northeast of Scottsdale.

The sheriff’s office says the animals did not have any food or water. In one of the photos posted on Facebook, you can see a horse standing with trash (including a box of beer) in its stall.
