Scottsdale Launches New Trolley Route to Ease Access to Food Bank and Community Services

Scottsdale’s latest initiative to combat food insecurity hits the streets on August 7, as a new trolley route offering key connections to essential services gears up for operation. The route is slated to link the Scottsdale Food Bank, Granite Reef Senior Center, and Vista del Camino Community Center, according to details furnished by the city. Running from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursdays, the trolley ensures that residents, particularly those without cars, can easily access vital community resources.

What sets this service apart, in addition to the convenience, is the establishment of a 30-minute loop with stops tailored to the needs of seniors and individuals in need, including the food bank’s new location at 7601 E. McKellips Road, Building C. The initiative is seen as a responsive measure to the food bank’s recent expansion, which, although providing increased service capacity, left a gap in public transit accessibility for the nutrition center, now bridged by the trolley’s introduction.

Reinforcing the importance of accessible nutrition and support services, Scottsdale Human Services manager Sue Oh highlighted the rationale behind this new offering. “We wanted to ensure that residents who rely on the Scottsdale Food Bank and do not have access to personal transportation can continue receiving the support they need,” Oh told the City of Scottsdale.
