PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is set to spend more than three decades behind bars for the shooting and murder of an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper along a West Valley freeway in 2018.
Isaac Damon King, 27, was sentenced to 35.5 years in prison for the shooting death of Trooper Tyler Edenhofer and the shooting of another state trooper.
The sentence comes seven years after the incident that led to Trooper Edenhofer’s death on July 25, 2018. Around 10:15 p.m. that night, several 911 callers reported that a man was walking in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Dysart Road in Avondale, throwing rocks at passing vehicles.
Trooper Dallin Dorris responded to the scene and got into a struggle with the suspect, later identified as King. Trooper Edenhofer and his field trainer, Trooper Sean Rodecap, arrived moments later and tried to help Dorris take King into custody.
Records show King pulled a handgun from Rodecap’s holster during the struggle and fired at least two shots, striking Edenhofer and Dorris. Police officers from nearby West Valley cities also responded, and King was eventually arrested as the two wounded troopers were rushed to the hospital…
