Federal Lawsuit Accuses TSMC’s Phoenix Plant of Discrimination and Hostile Work Environment

The sprawling chip plant of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) in Phoenix, once a beacon of high-tech promise, is now the epicenter of a legal maelstrom, with allegations of discrimination and a hostile workplace escalating into a federal lawsuit—a situation that pits the corporate giant against the very workers it once sought to elevate within its ranks.

According to an ABC15 report, the lawsuit currently includes 28 current and former employees, and it features accusations of systemic discrimination against non-East Asian employees, who faced verbal abuse and were disparately called “stupid” and “lazy,” their expertise and safety concerns frequently dismissed, sometimes even leading to accusations of them being troublemakers within the company that is a leading force in the semiconductor industry, a crucial part of the modern technological infrastructure.

David Amiri, a fire safety expert who joined TSMC with the intention of rounding off his career there, spoke up about safety violations and instead of being heard was allegedly labeled a problem-maker, as he told ABC15; similar accounts were shared by Antonio Fisher, a former engineering technician, who also observed overlooked safety practices and inappropriate displays that included a rubber chicken hanging by a noose in the office space…
