A grand jury in Maricopa County has delivered an indictment for 16-year-old Chris Aguilar on charges of first-degree murder following a stabbing at Maryvale High School. As reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident that led to the death of 16-year-old Michael Montoya II occurred inside a classroom on August 19, where Montoya suffered multiple stab wounds.
According to statements from the Phoenix Police to ABC15, the attack happened around 11 a.m., and Aguilar is alleged to have used a folding pocketknife. Initially, Aguilar was treated for cuts to his hand and was held on a second-degree murder charge before the indictment was upgraded to first-degree murder by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Investigators are looking into a reported altercation between the teens that occurred the day before the stabbing.
