Fallen Phoenix officer to be honored with historical marker

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix police officer who was killed in the line of duty last year will be honored with a marker at the site of the incident that ended with his death.

Officer Zane Coolidge will now be remembered with a historical memorial marker near where he was shot. The Phoenix Police Department announced the marker on McDowell Road just east of 16th Street to honor the sacrifice of the fallen officer.

Coolidge died in September 2024 after he was shot while responding to a reported car break-in at 16th Street and McDowell Road. Another officer sustained serious injuries and was able to recover.

The suspect, Saul Bal, was arrested after the shooting and was later indicted on several felony charges, including first-degree murder. His attorneys entered a not guilty plea on his behalf…
