Mesa Man Sentenced to Nearly 16 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking and Firearms Possession

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has successfully secured a prison sentence of nearly 16 years for Mesa resident Calvin Coleman, following a significant drug trafficking probe that uncovered a fentanyl operation. According to the official press release, Attorney General Kris Mayes announced that Coleman was sentenced by a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge on August 8, after being indicted in late 2023.

Agents apprehended Coleman after discovering around 4.8 pounds of fentanyl pills inside of a parcel intended for Mesa. Upon raiding his residence, law enforcement discovered an array of illegal items including additional fentanyl pills secreted within a baby formula container, numerous prescription drugs, cocaine, and a scale. The evidence was damning as recordings from Coleman’s bedroom showed him dealing drugs and flaunting firearms. The convict was also found with an arsenal including an AR rifle and several handguns.

Coleman’s illegal activities came to a head following his attempt to flee Arizona to skirt a conviction — a move that proved futile as the trial proceeded in his absence. The Maricopa County Superior Court Jury convicted him on charges of conspiracy, transportation and possession of narcotic drugs for sale, possession of a dangerous drug, as well as misconduct involving weapons. These charges stemmed from an array of misdeeds, painting Coleman as a figure of significant concern to local law enforcement efforts.
