Nearly all of the 25 guinea pigs stolen from a Tucson-area animal sanctuary were recovered after a multi-agency investigation led authorities to a Phoenix home, where 24 of the animals were found alive. One had died before it was able to be rescued, said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos in a news release.
On Sept. 23, detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department burglary unit began investigating the theft of the guinea pigs from a residence in Marana that operated as a small animal rescue with Lidtke Small Animal Foundation, according to Nanos.
