James Morris, a man convicted of a brutal park sexual assault in Scottsdale, has been sentenced to life in prison, plus an additional 20 years. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell confirmed the sentence after Morris was found guilty of attacking a 19-year-old woman and her 16-year-old boyfriend in Civic Center Park.
The incident occurred in July 2023 when Morris falsely accused the woman of being a pregnant prostitute who owed him money. Despite the couple’s attempt to appease Morris with money, his aggression escalated to sexual assault. Evidence from the crime scene, including Morris’s blood-stained boxers and DNA found on the victim, led to his arrest on the same day of the attack, as per details from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
A jury found Morris guilty of multiple felonies, including four counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual abuse. In addition to the attack in Scottsdale, Morris received a concurrent life sentence for stabbing a woman in Glendale park in the preceding month, where the woman fortunately survived.
