Docs: 17-year-old tried to rob teen before shooting, killing him in south Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A 17-year-old boy is facing murder and armed robbery charges after police say he attempted to rob a teen before shooting and killing him, leaving two others injured in south Phoenix earlier this month.

Court documents obtained by Arizona’s Family revealed that Anthony William Coleman was booked into the Maricopa County jail on Wednesday on accusations of first-degree murder and armed robbery. Arizona’s Family is naming him because he is being charged as an adult.

Phoenix police said the shooting happened on Oct. 2 around 7:45 p.m. in the area of 37th and La Salle streets. When police arrived, they found a teen boy who had been shot in the neck. He was flown to a nearby hospital, where he died upon arrival.

Two other boys were also injured in the shooting. One of whom was grazed on his hip, and the other, who showed up to the hospital, initially linked to investigators about being shot elsewhere, but was later linked through DNA at the scene…
