Phoenix officers cleared of neglecting duties in beating death. Videos tell another story

Phoenix police have offered two accounts of what happened the night a pair of off-duty officers stood by as a man was fatally punched outside a downtown club — and neither version matches what was captured on video at the scene.

Police records obtained by The Arizona Republic show the officers were cleared of all but a minor policy violation for their actions during an after-hours brawl March 16 that led to the death of 22-year-old Rafael Montoya.

Officers Daniel Dominguez and Anthony Goldsmith received written reprimands for failing to turn on their body-worn cameras while working security at the club…
