This Latin rap icon is celebrating the career he started at Phoenix swap meet

MC Magic is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his first album with a hometown show at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

Born Marco Cardenas in Nogales, Mexico, the hip-hop star was raised in Phoenix, where he began working as a DJ at 13 and adopted the name MC Magic when he started rapping.

After making a name for himself with Nastyboy Klick and NB Ridaz, he topped Billboard’s Heatseekers chart in 2006 with a second solo album, “Magic City,” a soulful blend of Latin funk and hip-hop topped by MC Magic’s calling card…
