Phoenix Man Embarks on Journey of Sobriety and Self-Worth at Circle the City Medical Respite Center

A Phoenix man is pursuing recovery after years of homelessness and a metastatic lung cancer diagnosis. Todd B.—who has chosen to withhold his full name—has been receiving care at Circle the City’s Medical Respite Center, a facility serving the health needs of people experiencing homelessness. ABC15 reports that the center has supported Todd not only with medical treatment but also in his efforts toward sobriety and rebuilding his sense of self.

Todd B. described substance use and financial struggles as key factors that led to his homelessness, noting that money that could have gone toward rent was often spent on drugs or alcohol. At Circle the City’s Medical Respite Center, he has been receiving support to address these challenges. Todd told ABC15 that achieving sobriety has allowed him to reconnect with his emotions, calling it “one of the biggest gifts” he has received.

Circle the City was founded in 2012 by Sister Adele O’Sullivan to address gaps in care for Phoenix’s homeless population, particularly for those recently discharged from hospitals who would otherwise return to the streets or basic shelters.
