Report: Bureaucrats let Mesa park rangers run wild

An independent investigator laid blame on renegade Mesa park rangers at the feet of those with direct oversight of the unit.

The rogue rangers used racial slurs, roughed up people and engaged in enforcement actions outside their authority by detaining and arresting people.

Recreation and Community Facilities Department Director Andrea Moore and Deputy Director Aimee Manis both “retired” two weeks ago when presented with the findings and ranger Supervisor Brett Burton “retired” in October while on administrative leave, according to the city.
