A student walkout at Hamilton High in Chandler shifted from spirited protest to tense standoff when a masked man carrying what officers described as a handgun showed up, a teenage girl was arrested after allegedly throwing a water bottle, and a white SUV pushed its way through a crowd of demonstrators.
Police escorted the armed man away from the scene, and detectives now say they are working to identify the driver of the SUV. The confrontation unfolded as hundreds of Valley students joined anti-ICE demonstrations on Jan. 30.
What police say happened
Chandler police were already monitoring the student march when a masked man arrived with what officers said appeared to be a handgun and “had multiple interactions” with student demonstrators, according to local coverage from KTVK/KPHO (AZFamily).
